  • Prognosis and therapeutic choices for occult breast cancer in female patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
    BMC Surg. 2026 Aug 03; 26(1).Zhao Z, Shang Q, … Wang XBS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Female patients with OBC appear to have relatively favorable survival outcomes, while axillary nodal stage remains an important prognostic factor. Mastectomy was not associated with a clear survival advantage. RT appeared to be associated with improved OS; however, this finding should be interpreted cautiously because the available evidence was derived primarily from retrospective observational studies, and its effect on DFS remains uncertain. Further prospective studies are warranted to optimize treatment strategies for OBC.
  • Clinical experience of transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy using a modified glove-port device and conventional instruments. [Journal Article]
    BMC Surg. 2026 Aug 01; 26(1).Xiong S, Yang J, … Hu BBS
  • CONCLUSIONS: TUSPLC using a modified glove-port device and conventional instruments appears technically feasible within the short-term (1-month) follow-up period in selected patients, with no statistically significant differences in operative time, blood loss, or total hospitalization costs compared with conventional three-port LC. Postoperative hospital stay was statistically shorter by 0.10 day, a difference of uncertain clinical significance. This modified technique may serve as a practical option for performing single-port LC in resource-limited primary-level hospitals under China's DRGs payment model. However, because of the retrospective, single-center design and short (1-month) follow-up, long-term safety data for port-site hernia and other delayed complications are lacking, and the cosmetic benefit requires validation with objective assessments; therefore, these findings should be interpreted as preliminary. Further prospective, multicenter studies with extended follow-up are essential.
  • Effect of ERCP burden on outcomes of subsequent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. [Journal Article]
BMC Surg. 2026 Sep 05; 26(1).Kesgin YM, Gumusoglu AY, … Adaş GTBS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Prior ERCP is associated with increased operative difficulty during subsequent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Among ERCP-related factors, repeated ERCP procedures, particularly undergoing three or more preoperative ERCP interventions, were associated with a higher likelihood of laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy. These findings suggest that cumulative ERCP burden may be associated with increased difficulty of subsequent laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
